Fishing Report – Dec 27th 2023

Here are our December 27th fishing reports brought to you by our community

As the Xmas rush was out of the way, We used the opportunity to pay Portland a visit and chase some tuna. On the 27th December weather looked good so we where on the way to Julia Reef. On my boat I had Mima and Jerry, and the second boat was David with Lynda. David was in his Tournament boat that he purchased from Geelong Marine World, and, he had the same Suzuki 200HP as I had it on my Whittley SL200. It was interesting to compare fuel usage between this two boats. On the end we done the same path, 122km travel, and David used 65L and I used 68L. It is amazing how this engine uses very little fuel considering the size and weight of the boat it had to push.
Anyway, fishing was a little bit hard. As we got to Julia reef, we had a triple hook up and only landed one tuna. Then we spend nearly six hours looking for more tuna, and then finally David managed one more.

The next few days, the weather was very average so we spend some time exploring Portland and surrounding area. We went up to Nelson as well to see how was the fishing around the river, but, no mulloway showed up lately.

Than we end up exploring Cape Bridgewater and had a nice meal at the restaurant on the main beach.
All in all great trip and great time with friends.

In meantime we seen another fishing enthusiast Andrew and he was on the mission. His son, little Phill, wanted to catch tuna and kingfish so Andrew made a trip to Portland and managed to catch few of each.
Well done!
