Fishing Report – 2023 June 9th

Here are our June 9th  fishing reports brought to you by our community

There is lots of tuna ATM in Portland! Unfortunately most of the schools are out from Bridgewater in 80-120m so it is a bit of challenge to get there in this weather. Lately Portland had 6m swells and 50 plus kilometers wind so it was very hard to go there and target them. This long weekend the weather is showing exactable conditions so it is a good chance for everyone to go and get some tuna.

Saying that most of the charters are doing really well. Sharkmen Charters, Gone Fishing Charters and all the others are managing they bag limit on every trip.

Port Phillip

Finally King George Whiting has become a bit more consistent around Leopold, Limeburners, Swan Bay and out from Queenscliff. Somehow this year everything seem to be a bit late, but, it is good to see fish being caught lately in good numbers. There is plenty of small fish around but in between them quiet few 40 plus centimeters.

On the other hand Squid is a different story. One day there is plenty of them, the very next day you may struggle. Same spot, same time of the day, even on the same tide, but everything is different. The only consistent reports came from Portsea and Rye area, all the other places ca be hit and miss!

Main Attraction Lately – Gummy Sharks

It is very good to see the amount of gummy sharks around. Lots of reports come mainly from around Mud Island and deep of St Leonards, but there are also reports from Corio Bay, out from Franston and also Mornington area. Best bait fresh salmon fillet, and if you lucky you may come over a big salmon bust-up as they are around at the moment.
